Iryna Kurpil, a student of Ecology at Sumy State University, completed her master’s thesis in 101 Ecology on “Development of measures to combat climate change in Sumy region.” The thesis was performed within the framework of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Chair project “EU Climate Leadership” under the supervision of a member of the project team – Iryna Vaskina.
The paper studies the causes and consequences of global climate change, analyzes the directions of Ukraine’s state policy in this area and analyzes climate change in Sumy region over the past 20 years. Recommendations for combating climate change were developed for Sumy region at the community level, as well as at the level of individual citizens. These recommendations are based on European experience in developing climate strategies for cities and they can be used in developing such a strategy for the city of Sumy or the region as a whole.
